Hiring a Non-Medical Caregiver

Pacific Domestic Agency understands that hiring a dedicated caregiver can help families restore normality and peace to their lives. A caregiver would also bring comfort to their loved ones with physical disability or advanced age. Receiving care and companionship permits a person to remain safe and comfortable in his or her own home. PDA's process of behavioral screening interview, and reliable references and a minimum of 2 years' experience gives us confidence in the quality of the caregivers we referrer to our clients. We referrer those caregivers that have already chosen this field as their life’s work.

The focus of a non-medical caregiver is to assist with activities of daily living. An in-home caregiver performs non-medical tasks and are hired to assist in such duties as:

  • Personal care assistance (grooming, bathing, dressing and bathroom assistance)

  • Meal planning, preparation and serving.

  • Light housekeeping, laundry and Ironing ect.

  • Companionship

  • Socializing

  • Supervision

  • Transportation to doctor appointments, errands and grocery shopping.

  • Medication reminders

  • Providing world wide web assistance

  • General help

In the Los Angeles County area, a Non-Medical Caregiver earns between $20 to $35 per hour or a salary of $800 to $1400+ per week (depending on the applicant's résumé). For those caregiver's that hold a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or HHA (Home Health Aide) certification, hourly pay rate automatically Increases. Most caregivers work five days per week. If necessary, weekend care and 24-hour care are available for families with those needs.

As the employer you may decide to go with a Live-In or Out, Full-Time or Part-Time. All wage or salary agreements should be discussed prior to employment. All duties and shifts should be communicated from the client to the non-medical caregiver verbally, and in writing, prior to employment.
